An organization’s sustainable growth can only be achieved by understanding the impact it has in the community and by actively participating to improve the lives of others. Today, Vitalus wants to join the celebration of the International Day of Charity, created by the UN by acknowledging our Community Connection Committee (CCC).
Vitalus is passionate about providing Care and giving back to our community. Since 2011, we have supported Canuck Place Dave Lede House located in Abbotsford, British Columbia. From the inception of the plan to build a new children’s hospice in the Fraser Valley, Vitalus has fundraised, built the family kitchen, and most recently, sponsored the Vitalus Nutrition Breakfast Bar located in the main gathering area to be a centre for healthy smoothies using our high-quality nutritional ingredients. In 2017 we launched our Day for a Day program. This program gives the opportunity for all our employees to take eight hours of paid volunteer time to encourage giving back to our community.
In January this year, we formed the Community Connection Committee (CCC). This new committee includes eight of our employees from various departments in our organization. The CCC’s primary focus is to continue to support Canuck Place’s Fraser Valley Campus, David Lede House, and Archway Abbotsford Food Bank. They also evaluate all incoming requests for charitable support from other organizations to make sure they align with our core values: Integrity, Care, and Expertise and support our purpose of “Improving Lives by unlocking the Nutritional Value of Milk”. Part of the CCC’s responsibility is to conduct outreach activities with our employees and communicate all new opportunities to participate.
This year has been a great first year for CCC. Since January, we have supported the Canuck Place’s Gift of Love Gala which is an event that raises money for David Lede House. We have also volunteered in four food packing events for the Starfish Pack Program, a program at Archway Abbotsford Food Bank. This program provides nutritious food for the weekend for kids that are in need in our Abbotsford community. To date, we have more than 200 volunteer hours and 40% of our employees participate in a Day for a Day Program! We look forward to continuing our efforts to improve the lives of our employees and our community.
