BC-based Vitalus Nutrition becomes first Canadian manufacturer to produce galacto-oligosaccharides

Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada – (February 9, 2018)  Vitalus Nutrition is pleased to announce their newest product line, VITAGOS™.

VITAGOS™ is a highly-soluble, clear syrup rich in galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS). GOS are non-digestible carbohydrates produced from lactose – a component of milk – through enzymatic process. VITAGOS™ has an exceptionally clean taste and smooth mouth feel with a shelf life of 18 months. No special storage or distribution conditions are required.

VITAGOS™ as a technical ingredient is ideal for contributing to the functional properties of almost any food and can be incorporated into a wide variety of food and beverage applications, including special nutrition and sports drinks. While also a source of dietary fiber, the pleasant taste of VITAGOS™ makes it the perfect ingredient for beverages, meal replacements and ready-to-drink products.

GOS has been reviewed and permitted as a dietary fiber by Health Canada Food Directorate and is allowed to be used in all un-standardized food products as a source of dietary fiber.  GOS has a long history of use in several countries including the USA, Japan, European Union, Australia and New Zealand.

VITAGOS™ can be added to Natural Health Products as a source of dietary fiber and has been scientifically substantiated to help support gut flora and in the maintenance of intestinal flora.

Around the world, GOS is widely used in infant formula and baby food.  The GOS structure resembles oligosaccharides that occur naturally in human milk, making it an important nutritional ingredient in infant foods.

Vitalus Nutrition Inc. is also the first Canadian manufacturer of Galacto-oligosaccharides that has received the GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) “No Questions Letter” from US FDA, Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, for the GRAS notification GRN 721 for its product VITAGOS™ – Galacto-oligosaccharide syrup.  VITAGOS™ is accepted as GRAS for its intended uses in USA.” This achievement of GRAS status is a significant step in proving the safety and efficacy of our product for its intended uses.
